LEGO Disney summer 2021 sets officially revealed

Mickey and Minnie Mouse are finally getting their own full-blown LEGO theme in this summer’s Mickey and Friends sets, and we’ve got all the images.

We’ve already seen low-res pics of the new Mickey and Friends range courtesy of a couple of Dutch retailers, but the LEGO Group has now provided our best look yet at what to expect from the five 4+ sets when they launch next month. And given that recommended age range positions them purely as gateway sets between System and DUPLO, those expectations should revolve mostly around the minifigures.

If you do have younger fans to buy for, though, these look like solid options to cross that gap between the LEGO Group’s two most well-known building systems, encompassing subjects from flying and farming to firefighting and space exploration. Plus, there’s a new animal to get hold of…

“I loved Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and all of their friends when I was younger so designing these sets felt very nostalgic,” said James Stephenson, Senior Designer at the LEGO Group. “We hope the new LEGO Disney Mickey and Friends range will offer great fun and role-playing opportunities to help young children learn about friendship, communication and resilience with characters they know and love.”

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
