LEGO CITY 40578 Sandwich Shop free gift now available in UK and Europe

The LEGO Group’s latest promo set 40578 Sandwich Shop is now available online and in-store in the UK and Europe – but there’s no sign of it in the US.

Available from today through September 30 with all orders above £90 in the UK and €90 in Europe, the LEGO CITY-themed gift-with-purchase includes a roadside sandwich kiosk, two minifigures and a relatively rare green bicycle. It’s not the most ground-breaking freebie the LEGO Group has ever put out, but it’s a seamless entry point to the wider LEGO CITY line-up at a not-too-severe qualifying threshold.

That’s in the grand scheme of recent gifts-with-purchase, anyway, some of which (over the past couple of years) have required spends of up to £200 / €200. ‘Only’ £90 / €90 for 40578 Sandwich Shop feels easy to reach by comparison, not least with the LEGO Group’s recent price increases. But hey, there’s plenty of new stuff to whet your whistle with at LEGO.com, including the sublime 21335 Motorised Lighthouse.

Meanwhile, fans stateside will mysteriously have to content themselves with 40529 Children’s Amusement Park, a returning gift-with-purchase from earlier this year. It comes in at the same threshold as was seemingly intended for the brand new 40578 Sandwich Shop, which means you’ll need to order $90 of LEGO to pick it up. That free gift will be available until September 22 (or while stocks last).

Whether 40578 Sandwich Shop will eventually materialise in the US remains to be seen. If you want to get your hands on it in the UK and Europe, you’ve got until the end of the month – or, again, while stocks last. Check out our full review of the GWP by clicking here.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
