Our chances of getting LEGO Marvel Armor Wars sets just skyrocketed

Our chances of getting LEGO sets based on the continuing adventures of War Machine have just skyrocketed, as Marvel has radically changed its plans for Armor Wars.

Originally planned as a six-episode event show, the series – led by Don Cheadle, who reprises his role as James Rhodes, or War Machine – will now instead arrive in cinemas as a feature film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel realised during development of the project that it was better suited to a theatrical release, which presumably means they didn’t have enough material to stretch to a series.

Armor Wars is still being penned by Yassir Lester, and revolves around the concept of Iron Man’s armour falling into the wrong hands – but little else is known about it at this stage. We don’t have a release date of any kind, and it’s likely to have been pushed back internally even further following the switch from series to film.

The good news is that we’re now much more likely to see at least one LEGO Marvel set based on Armor Wars (whenever it finally arrives on screens), as the LEGO Group has famously prioritised the MCU’s films over its TV shows. In fact, the only representation any of the Disney+ series have had so far is in 71031 Marvel Studios, while the wider product line continues to focus on movies.

Whether that will change in the months and years to come is currently unknown, but based on the theme’s current trajectory, Armor Wars sets now feel nailed on. And that hopefully means plenty more Iron Man suits…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

And, of course, the 2 “What if…?” sets.
    They’re from Disney +
