LEGO Star Wars 75355 X-wing Starfighter officially revealed

The next LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set is 75355 X-wing Starfighter, the third rendition of Luke Skywalker’s iconic rebel ship at this scale.

Releasing exclusively for VIP members from May 1, and for everyone else from May 4, 75355 X-wing Starfighter is the biggest and most detailed version of this vehicle to date. It includes 1,949 pieces in all, which is 390 more than 2013’s 10240 Red Five X-wing Starfighter, and 649 more than 2000’s 7191 X-wing Fighter. Those are the previous two UCS renditions of the Star Wars ship, the last coming 10 years ago.

That’s apparently enough of a gap to warrant an update in 75355 X-wing Starfighter, which will match the current retail price of 75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder at £209.99 / $239.99 / €239.99. The final model measures 55cm long, 27cm tall and 44cm wide, and – as per the vast majority of UCS sets – sits on a black display stand, complete with an info plaque, which is printed here rather than stickered.

“Whilst this is not the first time we have brought the X-wing Starfighter to brick life, this is the most detailed and I am so excited with the final design,” said Henrik Andersen, LEGO Design Master. “It is such an iconic ship, by designing at this new larger scale we were able to include more specific details such as the thrusters, the cockpit and the wings. We are so excited to now share this with fans.”

75355 X-wing Starfighter also follows the format of previous May the 4th sets by including two minifigures, this time of Luke Skywalker and R2-D2. Luke’s in his pilot outfit and is the most detailed version of this character to date, with printed arms and dual-moulded legs. He’s basically to 75355 X-wing Starfighter as C-3PO is to 75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder, which is to say likely permanently exclusive.

While you won’t be able to buy the set until May 1 (or May 4 if you’re not a VIP member), you will be able to see it up close and in person if you’re at Star Wars Celebration this weekend. The annual event gets underway in London on April 7. The LEGO Group has also confirmed that 40623 Battle of Endor Heroes will be able to purchase at Star Wars Celebration ahead of its wide release in May.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
