Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 finally gets a release date

Marvel’s long-awaited Spider-Man sequel on PlayStation has got an official release date – as well as an eyewateringly pricey Collector’s Edition.

Produced by Insomniac Games, Spider-Man 2 is the follow-up to the 2018 game of the same name. We’ve already seen story and gameplay trailers for the title, with a promised release during the autumn of this year. Now, it’s been officially confirmed to come out on October 20, 2023, with preorders starting June 16.

Sony also shared details about the various editions of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including a Collector’s Edition for a whopping $229.99 that includes all the bonuses of the Deluxe Edition, as well as “an extraordinary, high-quality 19-inch statue featuring our Spider-Men battling fan-favourite Venom.”

Otherwise, any preorders of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will earn you the Arachknight Suit for Peter Parker with three additional colour variants, the Shadow Spider Suit for Miles Morales in three colour variants, the Web Grabber gadget, and three skill points. Full details can be found on the PS Blog.

Spider-Man 2 will indeed feature Venom alongside Peter Parker and Miles Morales. In fact, there could be a reference to the game hidden in Miles’ recent film of his own, Across the Spider-Verse, where his roommate is playing a Spider-Man video game that looks an awful lot like Insomniac’s upcoming release.

If it is, this wouldn’t be the only fun reference from the animated film, with Across the Spider-Verse also featuring young LEGO animators. With this collaboration between LEGO and Sony, it could be that we see sets or at least minifigures based on Spider-Man 2. Indeed, the LEGO Group’s partnership with PlayStation has been going from strength to strength, ranging from a cameo in a LEGO Marvel Spider-Man set to a dedicated 76989 Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck.

With that in mind, a reference or minifigure inspired by the game is within the realm of possibility, although of course nothing has been confirmed.
