LEGO Batman 76271 Gotham City’s minifigures stay true to their source material

The four LEGO minifigures included with 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City look to stay true to their source material… mostly.

We got our first official look today at 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City, a new addition to the LEGO Batman theme and one that will set you back £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99. The model will be available from April 1 exclusively for LEGO Insiders, with everyone else able to buy the 4,210-piece build from April 4.

As well as an impressive 3D microscale backdrop of the crime-ridden location, 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City also comes with four exclusive minifigures. Batman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn and The Joker are all based on their appearances in B:TAS and can be placed on a grey display plinth complete with two brick-built gargoyles.

While we’ve had multiple iterations of all four characters in minifigure form, just how much do these new versions reflect their animated counterparts?

Batman

The new Batman minifigure is based on the character’s initial look in B:TAS (although black and not dark blue), before the yellow oval around the bat symbol on the hero’s chest was removed. The updated Dark Knight appears to have dual-moulded legs and a new printed torso, but his cowl seems to be a reused piece.

76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City’s Batman minifigure is as close a match to the TV show version as we could have hoped for, so no complaints here.

Catwoman

For such a slinky and seductive B:TAS character as Catwoman, the LEGO Batman set’s minifigure does struggle. It’s not a bad effort per se, but the blocky form of a minifigure doesn’t exactly flatter Selina Kyle’s on-screen alter ego.

However, what 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City’s Catwoman does deliver is a new head and torso printing, plus dual-moulded legs and black arms to compliment her grey costume.

Harley Quinn

As with Batman himself, we seem to have had a thousand-and-one Harley Quinn minifigures, so any new version has to have something extra special going for it. Fortunately the character’s costume in 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City does closely replicate her B:TAS look, complete with red, black and white colour scheme.

The jester’s head piece we’ve seen before, but Harley does at least boast new face, torso and leg printing, although we don’t know at this stage if she will have more than one expression.

The Joker

Saving the best ‘til last is The Joker, based on the maniacal Clown Prince of Crime as voiced in B:TAS by Mark Hamill. The character features a darker than usual reused green hair piece, but with a head print that’s the closest in look to the TV show version of the character than any other minifigure in the set.

The Joker also has a lighter purple outfit than we’ve seen before, although the lack of any printing on the minifigure’s legs is a bit of a letdown.

Fans of the Dark Knight will be able to check out all four minifigures included with 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City when it launches first for LEGO Insiders from April 1. The LEGO Batman build then gets a wider release on April 4, with the model priced at £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99.

I think the black Batsuit is great. Always saw the blue as highlights and not the color of the suit.
