Early review provides first look at 75365 Yavin 4 Rebel Base

Thanks to a video from retailer JB Spielwaren, we have our first look at 75365 Yavin 4 Rebel Base.

German LEGO retailer JB Spielwaren has uploaded a review of the long-awaited LEGO Star Wars set ahead of its release in August. The review, available on both the German and English JB Spielwaren YouTube channels, features a time-lapse build of the set as well as a closer look at its features and minifigures.

This video provides our first glimpse at how the iconic rebel base is actually constructed. Interestingly, the build is separated into six different instruction booklets, allowing a group of friends or family to build the set together. The mid-scale Y-Wing takes up one of the booklets, with the other five building the left, right, middle, top, and lookout tree sections of the base – which can all be easily attached or removed from one another.

The only play feature highlighted by the review that isn’t immediately apparent from the set’s box images are the stud shooters in the front windows. These two blasters are actually connected, so when moved, they both turn in the same direction.

The reviewer notes that the build is interesting and fun, but that the final product ultimately feels rather empty on the inside. When showcasing the model’s backside, he says that it’s “not too detailed, I think, in comparison to City or even LEGO Friends. This is like an unfinished building, without any details to play with.”

The minifigure selection is a large focus of the review, with lots of new and exclusive minifigures to be pleased about. The reviewer does repeatedly mention, though, that he finds the minifigure count to be too low for the set’s price. Twelve minifigures is nothing to shake a stick at, but neither is a price of 150+. 

At the end of the review, the JB Spielwaren reviewer gives the set a score of 2 out of 5. He notes that this is the lowest review score he’s ever given out, which is concerning for anyone excited for this set. He does specify, though, that he still likes the set and that the negative score is due to the high price and low play value for young fans.
