Five LEGO references in the Katy Perry 2022 holiday advert

The LEGO Group’s 2022 holiday campaign, featuring Katy Perry, has kicked off with a new advert including several LEGO set references. 

Much like the LEGO Group’s seasonal adverts from 2020 and 2021, there are some interesting Easter eggs for LEGO enthusiasts to spot in the minute-long video, all of which can be found in one scene. 

Not including the models that make up the main vehicle in the video, here are a few LEGO set references we found in the 2022 holiday advert, with another notable mention being the police car, though it’s likely not based on any one set specifically, but instead references the continuing LEGO CITY range: 

5 – 40516 Everyone is Awesome

A display dedicated to 40516 Everyone is Awesome can be found in the town square where Katy Perry waits for the massive model to be constructed by the children. In case the colourful design wasn’t enough to reference it, the monochromatic minifigures are featured too, complete with a neon sign. 

4 – 10298 Vespa 125

Parked on the street outside a LEGO store is a light blue Vespa, almost certainly referencing 10298 Vespa 125 which was released earlier this year. Unfortunately, no motorcycle helmet, basket or flowers are included with this Vespa, like the real build. 

3 – 10271 Fiat 500

Not to be confused with the blue 77942 Fiat 500, a yellow vehicle in the corner of one angle of a shot of the town square includes a yellow Fiat 500, as evidenced by the distinct fabric on the roof. This isn’t a reference to the limited blue build, but instead to 10271 Fiat 500, which was also coloured yellow. 

2 – 40501 The Wooden Duck or 11021 90 Years of Play

It’s hard to make out but on the side of a building in the background, the familiar shape of the LEGO Group’s wooden duck can be seen, possibly acting as a reference to both the 90th anniversary of the LEGO Group as well as 40501 The Wooden Duck, 11021 90 Years of Play, or any of the models that include a version of the iconic duck. 

1 – 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van

Next to the Everyone is Awesome display in the town square is another vehicle parked on the side of the road, a Volkswagen T1 Camper Van, of which there is one LEGO set recreating – 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van. Interestingly, the set was also referenced in the 2021 Rebuild the World advert.
