"It's a scaled-up playset, which I'd be fine with, but the price is steep," wrote Mozerath on reddit. "$170-200 is where I'd price this at."

Admittedly, all we have to go on is pictures right now but it's still hard to see where the money is going. Unlike 10316 Il Signore degli Anelli: Gran Burrone e 10333 Il Signore of the Rings: Barad-dûr, 10354 Il Signore of the Rings: The Shire is made up of one central build of Bag End, surrounded by smaller builds to make up other familiar locations from the Shire.
That certainly does give it that 'play-set' feel, although the price tag and 18+ rating still mean that many will be planning to display it alongside the first two sets in this trilogy. Even when you take in all the separate builds of the set, many fans are struggling to justify the steep price.
"Price to piece isn’t always a perfect determiner of value but just visually looking at this set, it doesn’t seem to earn that price point," wrote thecheesefinder on the same reddit post. "If they had added an extra four or five minifigures, I think the value might be there."
Some people are blaming the license for the high price, with redditor Jordan_Jackson writing: "This is just like the Zelda set. It is priced high because of the branding. This set just is not a good value. Take $50-100 off and then we can talk."

What's more, the license cannot be entirely to blame for the perceived overpricing, as the majority of fans agree that the Shire's predecessors, 10316 Il Signore degli Anelli: Gran Burrone e 10333 Il Signore of the Rings: Barad-dûr, are fairly priced. Putting 10354 Il Signore of the Rings: The Shire next to the other two certainly does highlight the drop in size and scope.
"This picture (referring to the one above) is giving me reason not to buy it," wrote IBJON on reddit. "It just looks so cartoonish next to the other sets and seems really small."
Yet there's still a strong enough fanbase
That's not to say that people are advocating for a boycott of the LEGO Icons set – far from it. Tolkien fans and specifically LEGO The Lord of the Rings fans have a dedicated enough fanbase that many people are happy to pay what many have labelled as an oversized price tag.
