New LEGO Ideas x Target contest launches to find next Ideas set

Hot on the heels of the results of the first LEGO Ideas x Target fan vote, a new contest is underway to find another future LEGO Ideas set.

While the first poll focused on previously-rejected 10K projects, this contest calls for brand new and original submissions focused on the concept of family. According to the LEGO Ideas contest page, that means ‘games you play together, holidays you’ve been on and memories that will last a lifetime’. How you interpret that brief beyond that guidance is almost entirely up to you.

Once the submission window closes, the LEGO Ideas review board will select a to-be-determined number of entries to progress to the next stage of the competition. A fan vote will then be held to find an overall winner, which will become a future LEGO Ideas set in exactly the same way as projects given the green light during the normal review process.

You’ve got until September 28 at 11am UK time to get your entry in, though the judges recommend submitting your build at least three days earlier in case any changes are required. The fan vote will then run from October 12 to 26, and the winning set will be announced in November.

The LEGO Ideas team frequently looks beyond its platform for ways to bring new sets to shelves, most recently in its first collaboration with Target to give three rejected 10K projects a second chance. As a result of that fan vote, BrickHammer’s Viking Village will now enter production as an official LEGO Ideas set, sold exclusively at Target in the USA (but at other retailers worldwide).

Given this contest is also being held in partnership with Target, it’s safe to assume that the winning set will also be available exclusively through the retailer (and official LEGO channels) stateside, but should be available widely in other territories. Head over to the contest page for all the fine print, and to submit your entry.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
