Rogue One returns ahead of Star Wars: Andor series premiere

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be rereleased in the IMAX format this month, in advance of Star Wars: Andor debuting on Disney+.

Fans disappointed by the news that the first season of Andor has been pushed back to September 21 will probably be excited to learn that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is being rereleased later this month. The prequel film will be arriving in IMAX cinemas from August 26 (at least in the US) and includes an exclusive look at the upcoming Disney+ series starring Diego Luna’s returning character, Cassian Andor.

A darker exploration of the Star Wars galaxy, Rogue One was originally released in 2016 and focused on a group of Rebel spies attempting to steal the plans for the Empire’s dreaded Death Star. Itself a prequel to a prequel, Star Wars: Andor has been confirmed for two seasons set across a five-year period, eventually leading directly into the events of Rogue One.

According to movie site Fandango, the IMAX release will feature an exclusive look at Star Wars: Andor, ahead of the first three episodes of Season 1 premiering on Disney+ next month. There’s no word yet on exactly what footage cinemagoers will get to see or whether it’ll be limited to the large format experience.

Only one LEGO set based on Star Wars: Andor has been confirmed so far, with 75338 Ambush on Ferrix available now and priced at £69.99 / $69.99 / €79.99.
